28 Jul

This summer is flying by, which is a good thing I think. I’m so busy with teaching, my RAship and shooting weddings for our business. I’m pretty sure this is the busiest time of my life. My priority, though, is finding time to do fun things with my boy. Like visit the wading pool one hot evening after work:

It was nice for N to interact with other kids. He was just fascinated by this girl and her ball.
Tonight we are watching the Olympics together:

And now he is sleeping away right next to us. Its kind of nice to hang out together 🙂

This weekend my primary goal is to get ready for our big trip to Montana next week. We’re leaving Wednesday evening and driving halfway so hopefully babe doesn’t go crazy in the car. We’re actually shooting a wedding along the way to my hometown to visit family. It should be fun, but I’m concerned with logistics. Could be a nightmare, but I hope the trip will turn out awesome 🙂

Saturday with friends

22 Jul

I finally met my friend/classmate’s little girl today. She’s almost 5 months old (which puts her & N 3 months apart).
It was so much fun to walk around and explore a park & a library. N had such a good time crawling around!!

He has so much energy to explore the world!

Babe can now stand and is on the verge of being able to pull up on his own. Walking is next…..

10 months!

17 Jul

The stats: Size 4 diapers, size 12 mo clothes. You’re bursting out of some of your pajama sleepers–even the 12-month size! You are a big, healthy boy!

Nicknames: Masunchik, bunny (zayets), muffin, Nikitos, mal-chu-gan, krasavits, krasavchik, chi-ki-ti-ta, “cutest baby in the world” (because you are).

Temperament: Delightful! I’m sure this will become a common refrain every month, well, for the rest of your life, but you’re just so full of personality! Between your giggles and your tears, your shrieks of joy and your shrieks of, well, tiredness, I always know what you’re feeling.

What You’re Eating:  2 meals a day plus snacks–you love blueberries, scrambled eggs, and cheerios. You tried trout the other night and loved it! There are very few things you don’t like 🙂 Today I gave you some fresh juicy raspberries and you weren’t sure what to think but after another taste or two, I’m sure you’ll warm up to them. We actually have a hard time keeping up with your appetite–we’ll put food on your tray and when we look back it’s all gone. We might need to add a third meal soon!  You still drink milk 3-4 times/day and 2-3 times at night.

Things I Could Do Without:  Your shrieks of boredom–a few months ago you’d moan when you were bored, now it’s shifted to the highest-pitched loudest shriek possible. It is SO annoying! Ugh. I almost want the moaning back!

Item/Toy I Love The Most: Oh, little glowing seahorse you have saved my life! It isn’t a 100% cure-all but it is so much easier for you to fall asleep with your little friend than without. Now that you’re sleeping in your crib most of the time, you get lonely and that little musical blue seahorse seems to provide that companionship you need. That, and the little monkey you’ve taken to chewing on.

Item/Toy You Love The Most: Hmm, you do love that seahorse (but not as much as me!). This month you’ve had a fun time playing with a set of measuring spoons on a ring that I tossed your way one day in desperation. You love to play in your play-yard and ride on my back in the Ergo. You love to crawl all over me, preferably on the bed or futon. One of my favorite things to do is plop you down on our bed freshly bathed and you squeal with delight and scamper halfway across, roll on your back, and laugh. You’re like a little puppy but with so much intelligence, love, emotion… ugh, my muffin, I love you!

Things I’m Loving Most Right Now:  You, you, you, you! When did my little teeny baby become such an independent wiggly little mover? I see more toddler in you than baby–suddenly over the last month or so you’ve begun to move so much! You figured out how to fully crawl this month and already you’re pulling yourself up. I often see you standing up on your knees, or bent over something with straight legs. You don’t yet have the strength for a full stand but I see it coming soon!

Things You’re Loving Most Right Now: Crawling! My project this weekend really needs to be a full cleaning/babyproofing of this apartment so you have room to explore. The other day we were shooting a wedding and so our next door neighbor babysat you (your first time staying with someone who’s not your family!) and she has two little girls–a 3yo and a 3 month old. You had so much fun playing and crawling and were SO SAD to go home. Just hanging out with mama and papa gets old, huh?

A funny story–the night before the wedding this weekend of course you woke up at 3am and didn’t want to go back to sleep. I was SO tired and physically couldn’t stay up to entertain you. I tried putting you back in your crib, but your squawking and fussing woke dad up. So we went out to the living room so I could sleep on the futon. You didn’t like that either. You didn’t want to play in your playyard, at your table or sit in your carseat. I couldnt’ let you stay in the futon because you’re prone to dive off it to the floor and I didn’t want you getting hurt. So I grabbed a pillow and blanket and joined you right in the middle of your gated play space, curled up and went to sleep.

You crawled all over me with glee! I’ve got a couple sore spots where you’d press all your weight onto my body while climbing. You played and explored and eventually. .. I woke up to a quiet room. I thought, where’s the baby!?!  I sat up, looked around, and there you were: all curled up soundly sleeping at my feet. Just like a puppy 🙂

Not exactly my best parenting moment, but I really do follow the philosophy that if everyone is safe, sometimes you just have to get by to the next day. We’re certainly not going to make a habit of sleeping in the “baby jail” together, but hey, it sure worked that night!

My angel, you are such a delight. Sure, parenting is getting harder (especially with your frequent late-night dance parties) but life is so much more joyful with you. I can’t wait to see what the next few months hold for you–you are changing so much every day–I never know what is next.

Some awesome pics from your 10-month photo shoot. I can’t believe there’s only 2 months ’till your a year old! Gotta start planning your party 🙂

Still fighting sleep

10 Jul

We are in a new sleeping phase and this might be the trickiest yet. Since babe is now crawling, it isn’t safe to have him sleeping on our big bed alone so we have transitioned him to his crib. He didn’t like that!!! We had to break a couple habits: falling asleep while drinking milk, sleeping on the bed, and cuddling to sleep with mom.

After several days of crying to sleep, I was desperate. I researched things online–turns out we’re in the middle of teething, the 9-mo sleep regression, and a change in sleep routine. So we headed to babies r us for a solution. I heard good reviews of this glow seahorse and we also got a stuffed turtle which projects stars in the ceiling.

We’ve already seen a vast improvement with the glow seahorse. He’s so cute cuddling with it!

We also got a Baltic amber teething necklace delivered today. Baltic amber apparently has succinic acid which dulls teething pain when in contact with the skin. Many parents swear by it, (although not everyone) so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try–plus he looks so cute wearing it!

So far so good! Tonight was one of the easiest nights in recent memory. Fingers crossed it stays that way!! Now to just get him sleeping more than 4 hrs regularly…

…Updated after writing this at 1am–babe woke up at 12 to eat and at 2am to party. He didn’t go back down until 4-ish, only to wake at 5:30. Why sleep when you can crawl all over mom and shriek to wake up dad? We ended up going out to the living room at 5:30 (did I mention babe has been sleeping in his crib and hubs and I have actually been sleeping in our bed?) and put N in his car seat, turned on his dolphin film and we slept ’till 9. Not too bad, but dude, sleep already!

Testing the waters

8 Jul

Right now I’m hanging out in our air conditioned car right next to our apartment while N naps–we had a fun day at the wading pool and he needs a good nap.

Since the weather today is in the 80s I decided to take my boy out for a swimming adventure. The beach near our house has a wading pool, so I got the benefit of great sun & a nice view while having a controlled environment for N to test the water.

After stopping by Target to get baby sunscreen, a sun hat, and a beach towel, we were on our way…and we had a blast!!

Checking out the water–this is the biggest pool he’s been in. We sometimes ‘swim’ in the bathtub, but this was entirely new and exciting.

A great view 🙂

Summer afternoon

7 Jul

Today we went to visit one of my dear college friends in a nearby town (where we went to college). It was so nice to see her, and now we have some serious house (and yard) envy.

The weather was beautiful and my boys sure had fun!
